Research on the Relationship among Water,Food and Energy in Shanxi Province based on Water Footprint Theory

  • In order to explore the relationship among water-food-energy in Shanxi Province and actively promote the energy revolution in Shanxi Province, this paper calculated and analyzed the changes of blue water and green water footprint, blue water footprint of major energy sources, gray water footprint, intensive utilization of water resources, water resource stress index and water-food-energy competition index of grain production in Shanxi Province from 2010 to 2020 based on the water footprint theory. The results showed that the green water footprint and blue water footprint of grain production from 2010 to 2020 indicated a trend of first fluctuating and rising and then declining, reached the maximum in 2016. The cereal water footprint accounted for the largest proportion.The water footprint of energy production showed three stages of rising, falling-rising. The intensive utilization of water resources was basically stable and increased significantly after 2016. The water resources pressure index showed a fluctuating downward trend. The water-energy-food competition index as a whole floated around 2, of which 2012, 2015, 2018 and 2019 were fierce competition, and the rest of the year were strong competition. It is recommended that Shanxi Province actively improve the efficiency of renewable energy utilization.
