The Influence Effect of Digital Economy on Carbon Emissions from Household Consumption in Yunnan and the Mechanism of Emission Reduction

  • Digital low-carbon transformation is becoming an important path for China to achieve its ‘dual carbon' goals. With the continuous rise of carbon emissions in the consumption sector, it is of great significance to explore the carbon emission reduction mechanism of the digital economy in this field. This study takes Yunnan Province from 2006 to 2022 as the research object to investigate the effect of the digital economy on carbon emissions from household consumption and selects green technology innovation as a mechanism variable to analyze its emission reduction path. The benchmark regression analysis shows a significant inverted U-shaped relationship between the digital economy and carbon emissions from household consumption. The mechanism test reveals that the digital economy indirectly reduces carbon emissions from household consumption by promoting green technology innovation. The research findings can provide a reference for Yunnan Province in formulating coordinated policies for digital economy development and carbon emission reduction.
