Identification of Hazardous Characteristics of Water Sediments for Emergency Treatment of Electroplating Wastewater Overflow

Abstract: By establishing a technical identification framework and procedure, this study analyzed the generation process of solid waste and developed a stratified sampling plan for the accumulated waste. Initial screening and final identification were conducted to evaluate the corrosivity, acute toxicity, leaching toxicity, flammability, reactivity, and toxic substance content of the water sediments. The preliminary screening results excluded corrosivity, acute toxicity, flammability, and reactivity as potential hazards. Furthermore, the final identification indicated that the solid waste did not exhibit hazardous characteristics associated with leaching toxicity. In the analysis of toxic substance content, the highly toxic substance content was ≤0.00254% (≤0.1%), the toxic substance content was ≤0.0964% (≤3%), and the reproductive toxic substance content was ≤0.01276% (≤0.5%), with ΣP/L (max) = 0.083<1. These findings confirm that the solid waste does not possess hazardous characteristics. Therefore, it is recommended that the waste be managed and disposed of as general industrial solid waste.
